Mildred Peretz was born on January 22, 1921, on her sister Etta's 11th birthday. That coincidence along with their mutual affinity for books, theatre and opera led the sisters to become best friends. Mildred became "Mickey" very early in her life the result of her sister Evey's attempts to say "Mishka," Mickey's Jewish name.

Mickey was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and for most of her life was a working mom.

In her last position as the supervisor of the word processing department in a major law firm, she "learned computers" and kept up each time the technology changed.

All the while Mickey made the most amazing chocolate chip cookies, date and nut bread, apple cake, stuffed cabbage, and breast of veal along with knitting beautiful sweaters for her children and grandchildren and their friends.  Her secret ingredient in everything she did for her family  she always said was love.

Her relationship with Julie was (as her grandson said) "the love affair of the century" that began when they met on the beach in 1935. They were partners in life who created a loving family with strong traditions that live on today.

Over the years our family has grown and changed, with Julie (Papa) leaving us in 2006 and Mickey (Nanny) in 2010. But our family continues to grow from the original nuclear family of Mickey, Julie, Alan and Dorrie.  Alan and Carol's family has grown to include Heather and Seth and their three girls:  AbbeyRose, Cassidy, and Evie, and Samantha and Matthew are expecting their first child in July 2018.  Dorrie and Jeffrey's family has grown to include Nina and Josh, and Katie and Jonathan and their children: Julian and Jack.  Family cats include: Griffin and Lola in Nina's home, Sammy in Katie and Jon's home and Sophie in Dorrie and Jeffrey's home.  Sam and Matt have a beloved family dog,  Jack.   Family holidays remain important as they bring us together to eat those same foods we ate at Mickey and Julie's table as we share our memories.
